Battles for the Armory

The 20th Annual Battles for the Armory celebrates the Battles of Chehaw and Franklin, Alabama which saved the Tallassee Confederate Armory from Union Raiders in 1864. The 2017 event will be 4-days beginning with School Day on Thursday, November 9th, Living History Day on Friday, November 10th with battles at 2PM on Saturday and Sunday November 11th and 12th. The event is a celebration of Southern History and Culture and features hundreds of reenactors including artillery and cavalry plus numerous period vendors (sutlers) as well as modern vendors including food vendors. School Day admission is $5 per student, general admission for battles is $5. Reenactor registration is $5 each. The host camp is The Tallassee Armory Guards, Camp 1921. The reenactor host unit is the 53rd Alabama Cavalry. The event takes place at the 200 acre Gibson View Plantation on Rifle Range Road in Tallassee. Amenities include firewood, hay, running water campsites and a hot water shower house.
